I believe the average price for ported heads is around $1600 give or take a couple of hundred with a 15% increase on intake and 28% increase on exhaust in flow. These figures are for ecotec heads so the VN-R heads should be round about the same. Also diff gears from a VL and the LSD diff centre will fit into a VR but they must be set up properly i.e. bearing pre-load and tooth contact, etc.

By putting this in your car it will make next to no difference to your car. Your car's ecu is tunned to a ron of 95. Yes your 98 fuel's make the car
run smoother but to get the true benifits out of the car you need to get your car tuned to it.
Now onto some power.

1. First step is after all the things suggested here, l'd suggest a set of 1.7 roller rockers (ecotecs can get 1.9's)
COST: roughly $700 +/-

2. A set of pacemakers
COST: $450 +/- (fit em yourself or $550 professionally fitted)

3. Heads ported/polished
COST: $1500 +/-

4.V6 s/c injectors (they flow even better then the gen III injectors!!
COST: $500

5. Custom cam, timming chain, springs.
COST: $850 plus labour

6. 3.75 diff or even 3.9's
COST: depends...

7.Custom Tune, an off the shelf cam just won't do. The chip has to take into accounts the better flowing heads, bigger cam and bigger injectors.
COST: $900 +/-

With all of this you should see yourself around 130-150 RWKW, even more on an ecotec since they respond REALLY well to head work.
