“How will JB Weld hold up to E85? Let’s get the testing underway.”

yea must have some additives in it maby extra toluene which can be bad for paint but helps out the MON real good, we use to have the P100 here that was united 98 with 10% ethanol blend
Used that a couple of times in the past from Melville United (Perth).
Car didn't go faster but still got another speeding fine near Riseley St.

Following some discussion in my Mini thread, I am doing a little experiment to establish if JB Weld is indeed fuel resistant and if ethanol has any increased negative effects over 91.

I have coated some rebar in JB Weld, allowed it to cure for some 28 hours and immersed them in jars of 91 and E85.

I have put the jars in the garage so they shouldn't be impacted by UV.

Will check them in one week for any changes.
Great experiment. I'll definitely be following for results.
I have used a cheaper version and it seems to be holding up to bp98 (nz blend) no worries.

nice idea.... but will tell you the results, now

JB WELD IS affected by all fuels. I used to use it to seal the fuel well plugs on Quaddie carbs
(to fix that well known issue of them leaking there under the fuel bowl)
and
result? 12-18 months later the fuel well plugs would be leaking again

Pull the carb apart and the JB WELD was just not there, it had basically melted

Guess that’s the difference when they say something is fuel “resistant” as compared to something which can be fuel “immersed”…

Hence the idea of this test to quantify what is what (which now sounds like it may have to be a longer term test ).

As an aside, original jb weld is far more chemical resistant compared to the quick version.

Is the "quick version" the plunger tube style ?

That's like Araldite versus 5-minute Araldite, the quick stuff turns to bubblegum after a couple of weeks.

No, it’s in the same toothpaste style. In the dirt bike world, it’s well known that you can’t use the quick version to fit magneto magnets in where the magneto’s immersed in oil. Some have found that out the hard way!

No such issue with a the original.
