It does all come from the same place, the government! If the government didn’t print the money in the first place then it doesn’t exist, it’s spent into existence by the government and private banks.

Governments with currency sovereignty (ie: Australia) spend first and tax later. Federal taxes don’t pay for anything, it’s just a means of creating demand for the currency.

On the other hand state taxes do matter as states don’t have currency sovereignty and thus can‘t issue new money to pay their debts (government bonds).
I see.

So instead of agreeing that more of the money governments tax their constituents should be used on roads, hospitals, etc. and as an incentive to not frivolously use the money on projects that don't financially benefit those they're meant to be working for you're set on trying to argue the semantics of an argument.

More money should be spent on roads, hospitals, etc but arguing that politicians get paid too much is beside the point.

The amount they get paid would add up to basically naught in the scheme of things. The problem isn’t politicians getting paid too much, it’s their job performance thats the problem.

The Labor and the Liberal/National parties have a cozy duopoly going on (in the great Australian tradition of duopolies) and spend most of their time trying to please business interests rather than the public who actually vote for them.

Thats only possible because the fourth estate (the MSM) help them, well mostly the LNP actually. If everyone actually knew what was going on and gave a **** it wouldn’t be like this.

Australia is set to export about $90 billion worth of LNG alone this financial year yet the people who the resources belong to (us) get basically nothing in taxes from it as the corporate lobby group (APPEA) has well and truly captured both sides of government.

And that’s only one issue that conveniently goes unmentioned by the MSM. There are many others as well but all you get from the MSM is bread and circuses or outright brainwashing. They want you to concentrate on what doesn’t matter so them and their mates can continue their plunder of this country unabated.

Where did I argue they get paid too much?

My comment was about the benefit of paying enlarged sums in retirement and an off the wall idea to improve accountability and provide more money for those social projects and programs you love.

You've just chosen to argue the minutiae and try to spin everything to serve your need to argue.

If Keith didn't have blinkers on he might accuse you of mental illness.

It’s called a debate. Much better that just calling people “left wing” or “right wing”.

Then debate the pensions. Not how much LNG we're exporting.

Debate something that’s actually important. Like I said government pensions are neither here nor there. As Chrisp said most pollies don’t get the huge pension perks anyway as that ended a long time ago now.

You're not the forum moderator of "what is important"

Surely you're mature enough that if you dont wish to talk about something or have nothing intelligent to add you can simply scroll past.

Clearly that isnt the case though.

Do you ever get sick of playing the man and not the ball? Or is that always the best retort you can come up with?

This is the political thread, not the politicians pensions thread so we are free to discuss anything political we want. It’s just that you don’t ever seem to discuss anything, you just rail against ”the left wing” without any actual cohesive arguments and put down anyone who doesn’t agree with you.

You‘ve been brainwashed to do that by Faux News and Costellos Cocks. There is a class war going on and it’s not between “the left and right”, it’s between the obscenely rich and the poor/middle class, and the rich are winning!

They want you to concentrate on what’s not important so they can continue their plunder of the commonwealth unabated.

Realistically everyone here should be as rich as the citizens of Saudi Arabia are, or have a sovereign wealth fund thats larger than Norways $1.4 trillion dollars, but we don’t because politicians here have been too busy doing foreign multinationals bidding and giving away our resources for free.

The federal government collects something like twice as much in income taxes from us plebs than they do in corporate and resource rent taxes combined.

If there was any fairness in taxation at all that should at least be an even amount on both sides if not more from business as they collectively have a lot more money than us plebs, but they have captured the political system to do their bidding.
