Hey guys, so my key fob was dying so i tried to replace the battery in the key and now it doesn't work i know for a little bit the boot opened but that was it, the car runs when i manually unlock the door and start it when it beeps, I'm just wondering can I run the car like that or will it cut out after awhile? The last thing I want to happen is the car cutting out halfway to work as I don't have the money for someone to come out and reprogram it,

any help would be literally a life saver

Redo the key. Open it up and reinstall the battery.
Make sure it’s the correct battery.

Did you happen to use a new key body as well?

Sounds like the battery might be upside down

No. No they don’t. The security part of the VE doesn’t need a battery to operate. It’s a transponder embedded in the plastic. Separate to the circuit board.

What’s the voltage on the old battery? Have you got a multimeter to test it?

What was the reason to change it?

Maybe there’s more going on?

Not sure and don't have one, the reason was it became harder to unlock when pressing the buttons so I figured it was the batteries since it unlocked after a few presses when closer i also tryed my spare key too but same result but that one has been sitting around for years so that one could be flat, maybe i'm safer to get another key cut with a new transponder, but can't do that to Thursday will i be safe to drive till then or will the car cut out because of the transponder in the key fob?

The transponder is glued into the plastic. It’s a mission to cut them out, so it won’t be that.

What if you simply have an old new battery? A new battery low on voltage. A multimeter would answer that straight out. Handy to have around the house to check batteries.

They cost $20 from Jaycar.
Watch a quick vid or they can show you at Jaycar how to read voltage.

Getting a key cut, programmed and with transponder set up is going to be a couple of hundred.

Let’s eliminate the easy stuff first.
