VZ, problem started a few years ago. First off it would not start then a day later fire up no problems, then progressed to longer spells of not starting.
It finally came up overheated on the dash, the wife got out and had a look the engine was not hot. Went into limp mode and got home, then ran well when started cold for another month or so. Drove into the shed then wouldn't start at all.
Tried the local RACV, they had a look and said it's worn out and needs overhaul. Yes it has done a lot of K's but uses hardly any oil and goes very well. It was driven into the shed, turned off then wouldn't start. If an engine is worn out it shows signs like high oil consumption, no compression, loosing power, an engine doesn't wear out overnight in the garage. They said can't do anything, they didn't even look at the putor. When we got the car back it had loose inlet manifold, poorly fitted airbox that was loosely on, and a few other bits that weren't done up.
Things tried are slip ring on key lock, keys reset, 3 putors sent away, all came back no faults. I have been away for 5 months and it hasn't run for at least 7 months, just started to look at it again. New battery just fully charged.
Tried hooking up to a Vident scanner, codes that came up were
B3924 BCM
P1678 ECM
U2106 TCM
Plus P1632-48/P
BCM codes 17, 02, 18, 19
Along with "Disarm theft protection system"
The putor codes might have been when they were removed to send away to be checked, bloke said nothing untoward and all were functioning well. they were refitted with still no change. The car won't turn over at all, the lights come on, panel says system checked OK but it won't turn over, no clicking, nothing.
I can handle a carb and distributor but am way out of my depth with all the lektronics in these Commodores.
I know VZ's aren't worth much but it is a great car to drive and I would like to get it going.
