I have a Auto VX S Pack that has done 420,000ks, recently when going up hill or when releasing the accelerator to slow down for a corner or a car turning and putting my foot back on the pedal it creates a similar sound and vibration that the lines on the highway create when you start veering over them, I have done some research and the only thing I found that sounded like my issue was something to do with worn clutch plates. If the issue is clutch plates how much money am I looking at for a repair with labour, and is manual converting a better investment

Would do some more trouble shooting first, inspecting the rubber donut couplings in the tailshaft and seeing if they're shagged is an easy one, or it's possible it could be diff related or the car has axle tramp from some cactus bushes. All of these are a pretty possible cause if none of these things have been changed in 420,000km. Which part of the car does it come from? Would also test with some different wheels if you have any, I've heard crazy sounds like that coming from tyres that are having issues or coming into contact with something.

In regards to the box, most cost effective/easiest thing to do would to be to just get a good second hand one. Manual conversion you really need to get a complete wreck for.

I'd be suspecting uni joints or centre bearing before gbox.

Worth getting a mech or a mate to check tailshaft for any freeplay/movement.

After checking the driveline and suspension points as others have suggested, if you still can’t find the issue, drop the auto trans pan and change the filter. Cut open the old filter and see what’s in it. If there is an issue with clutch slippage, the clutch pack can start shedding pieces large enough to see in the filter. Not guaranteed, but a cheap final inspection before exchanging the whole trans assembly.

Thanks, When I get home I’ll check the things you mentioned, I forgot to mention in the original post that when I serviced the transmission a few days ago I found some metallic residue floating around in It

When I did a transmission service a few days there was some metallic residue floating in it but it didn’t seem enough to worry my mate that’s a mechanic

The tailshafts coupling was a bit old and stiff but wasn’t cracked or torn, the rear shocks look fine, all the bushings that I looked at seemed almost brand new (I only got the car 5 months ago) and with the wheels I didn’t have any other sets for it but the wheels I’m running are the stock ones that came with the car with the recommended tyre size and profile, and the noise comes from the middle/back of the car. The diff wasn’t leaking any fluid but I have nether had to trouble shoot a diff as I only recently got my license, so what’s a way I could tell if it’s diff or transmission.

Transmission I reckon. You’re saying it’s happening when you accel/decel, basically whenever there’s a change in driveline torque. This does seem to point to either clutches or ring gear bands slipping. The metal in the oil also lines up a bit. I’m picturing what you saw looked like red/brown metallic paint when you looked at the oil in sunlight? Take it to a transmission specialist and get them to drive it with you as a final check. They’ll confirm it for you pretty quickly.
