Piston slap or hydraulic lifters?

Anyone had any issues with tapping sound, ? Piston or lifters

I have had issues with tapping sound on both cold and warm start up occurring since
All 8 Injectors were replaced under warranty. Never had this issue prior to injector replacement

Being told by Dealer service that this is normal and given copy of service letter stating piston slap, yet description was sound as a growl or Soft background rattle. Mine is an audible tapping sound, not a rattle.

Can piston slap sounds be tapping?, or could this be a lifter tap?

Thanks Ron, been a very interesting read about issues you have had. I too feel like I am driving a diesel at times when it’s tapping. I have even used that terminology when explaining issue to dealer. Unfortunately I do feel that I am not being taken seriously by them at times being a female, but at end of day I know my car and I know enough about them to know mine just isn’t right atm...
I will have to see what happens next as I am already escalating my issue...
I may just have to remind them about consumer law...

Hi guys, my L77 has the dreaded piston slap bit more noticeable with the cooler weather, runs fine after warm up, not using any oil though. Seriously considering getting it rebuilt, maybe at HPF in Dandenong. Anyone had an engine rebuilt there or have any recommendations?

My neighbour is a mechanic and recently had a listen of mine. He claimed it was slap pretty much straight away. Called a mate he knows who was a pretty senior tech at holden who told him straight up that its not an issue unless its still making the noise after the engine has reached operating temp.

Mine sounds like a tractor until it warms up a little.....

It's still blows my mind that this is an issue on some cars after LS1 saga.
That's what happens when you mass produce these things cheap...

Mine started to get noisy at approx 60k, got 70k on it now, sounds like tractor as well until it’s warm.
