I mean we’ve been going to the workshop for like maybe 15 years I wouldn’t say it’s shady, but can’t do much atm as it’s in the garage but once it out I will buy one for the future
You should also start checking out the specials at Ripco /Superthief/online etc for a scanner/code reader
FWIW I think I bought mine from Aldi for $50 on special and it does everything it's supposed to do.
Also I had a mechanic scan my car some time ago and tell me it was left front wheel sensor.
That's when I bought the $50 special from Aldi and scanned up O2 sensor
Replaced it and no more chimes from the dash
Scanner sits in the glove box until needed.
Just my 2 cents worth

Like others have said see what comes up when the car is scanned. I had the message come up one day and the next not start and it turned out to be coils but Check Powertrain could be any number of things. There's no point throwing parts at it not to fix the problem.
