Which engine pulley usually goes on a 3.8 v6.Theres a dry sounding whistle coming from that area

2004 Chevrolet Lumina S V6 (VY Commodore)
Could be either the tensioner pulley (below alternator) or the grooved idler pulley (below the coil packs) that tend to get squeaky

YV II Acclaim, non daily.
on mine it was easy, i removed the belt and spun them by hand. The plastic ribbed one was crunchy to turn - i replaced them all anyway including the belt.

The ribbed one is available in metal in the aftermarket too.

I sprayed them,however there was no silence so I will take the belt off.How long do you think I can drive it for.Its not squealing YET.

I sprayed them,however there was no silence so I will take the belt off.How long do you think I can drive it for.Its not squealing YET.

Cause it won't squeal with the belt off because the pulleys are not turning, but you will stuff the engine because the water pump is not turning, put the belt back on and read the advice from the posts above.

mine did the same thing and it was the drive belt .. replaced it ... noise went away

I took the pulleys off and popped the seals,all bearings had no play in them and were greased,with my un trained ear,i`m thinking power steering pump.

Get something like a long screwdiver and place it on the pulley bolt and then put your ear to the handle of the screwdriver whilt the motor is running you wll quickly find the pulley thats the cause.

Belts stuffed new ones like 40 bucks or one of your pulley bearings is cactus
