OK brains trust, which of these spanners suit the 149/179/186/202 starters.
The 5/8 to 9/16AF or the 1/2 to 9/16AF or is it the 9/16 that is important.

Its the one that fits.

I liked those 1/2 moon spanners, they where good for doing extractors on the old 6 cylinder ford motors.

The 9/16th is the size I think from memory.

Those are called aviation spanners by Snap-on.

They could also use some WD-40 and an old tooth brush to clean them up a little.

9/16 is the starter motor spanner for the bolts to the bellhousing.

The nut that holds the main power cable is ether 1/2" or 13MM, depending if the starter has been changed

EDIT...

5/8 is the bolt size for the bellhousing to block bolts.

So which is more important....Probably the 1/2 9/16 spanner just for the starter....

Thank you for all the replies
I found these when cleaning out cupboards, along with a stack of imperial spanners, and while I knew what they were used for way back then, I was unsure of the starter size.
I remember back in the 60's if you owned one of these you were king of the car brigade.
Of course along with the bent/ground levers for adjusting drum brakes.

I have the modern mechanics versions of these.

I own both of these plus many more snap-on's

And I see the lever that is used to change the direction of the ratchetting side is as flimsy as all get go...

You'd think, for a product as expensive as they are, they'd fix the issue, but nope...

A comparison of a crap on ratchet lever to an elcheapo ratchet lever...

I've seen these come up for sale on Marketplace and I never knew what they were for. Might keep an eye out and grab them if they come up again, why?, just because. I have a really old drum brake tool for FJ's. I'm likely to never use it but it was a gift so I'll hang onto it. I doubt Snapon make one. I'll throw up a pic later if I feel like it.
