When Top Gear filmed the South American show, Clarksons number plates had made a reference to the Falklands War.
The producers had asked him to change the plates but Clarkson wouldn't have it.
When they were in Argentina, it all kicked off, some of the locals had seen the plates and an angry mob congregated outside their hotel.
The story goes, Clarkson in fear for his safety was in his locked hotel room, hiding under the bed.

Top Gear had jumped its shar by then. Moved form infotainment to engineered entertainment.
The India special was particularly noticable for this.
Compared to early stuff like the north pole, cheap car challenges etc, the later stuff is pretty bad.
