Family has a TS Astra.

Pump became noisy, then 2 weeks later had loss of power steering. No fluid loss at all, no damage to rack.

Do I assume p/s pump to be the only part to be at fault?
Do I require to check codes? Is the ECU connected to these pumps [As in, does ecu shut off pump with low battery voltage? or is that later models of Astra's?]

FWIW.. as I can't comment much on the faults you list
I CAN tell you the TS Astra will shut the pump off/down
if battery voltage is low or pump resistance is very high

remember these suckers use lots of power and the computer
(which works with a power delay process to shut them up) is
a bit finicky with the electrics. We bought one (Astra) new
and 4-5 months later the pump went noisy and then assistance
stopped. Holden replaced the computer (warranty of course)
and the battery and we never had a another problem
