I’d be looking at strut tops and an internal leak in the rack.

What is your air pressure in the tyres?

@Immortality has played around with Power Steering racks. Knows the inside of them better than me.

I'm no expert.

Has the fluid ever been changed? What does it look like (pink, red, brown or metallic sheen...)

loosening the banjo bolt isn't a real good indicator, I believe these things operate at like a 1000psi+.

Seeing as there is nothing external that is obvious it may need some actual investigation, first step would be checking if the pump is making the actual required pressure and if that is fine then it's probably time to pull the rack out and have that checked/rebuilt.

Looking at that first pic, l'm thinking the hoses are around the wrong way on the reservoir. I would think the the bottom hose would feed the pump? & the top hose be the return line?

What's other peoples thoughts on this?

I think l'll go out & have a look at my old vt, thats the mock up car, as its standard.

The fittings are different sizes so very hard to fit on the wrong way. It looks correct to me. Big hose from the bottom of the reservoir going straight into the top of the pump body.

Had another look after reading you're post.
l thought the bottom hose was the return line.
After another look, yes, it goes straight to the pump.

Looks like a recoed rack, that's not too old, judging by the sticker.

Unfortunately looking at pictures doesn't always show if something is wrong.....Same applies just looking at the components

Does it turn freely one direction or the other? Or is it heavy both directions?

Tyre pressures inbetween 32 and 40 PSI?

How old are the tyres?

Has this issue just cropped up, or has it been getting progressively worse?

I thought that as well.

Hi guys Im really greatful for all your inputs.

I recently bought the car, towed it home and pushed it into the driveway. The car was dead " literally" and now got it back to life and i wanted to take it out for a test drive and i couldnt bloody move the steering wheel.

Tyres seems to be ok and the steering wheel is hard both ways. I have few cars with same power steering pump should i just borrow one to see if the pump is the culprit? Or its just a waste of time? Now when i loosened the banjo bolt and the fluid gushed out i topped up the resevior with
"MULTI-VEHICLE FULL SYNTHETIC TF LV"
Photo attached. Is this the right fluid? It says Trans & power steering.

Now i know this is unrelated but i have " Service Vehicle Soon " on the dash and i try to reset it it says ( no item to reset) I plugged in the tech 2 and fault codes at all. Could this be related by any chance?

Not sure, don't know the spec for VE's but it'll definitely do the job.

If you have a pump and have time you could change one over. It'll only cost you your time.
