So, based upon your facts (which come from where? Your years of experience I presume) why tell the OP that he won't be able to smell the voice coils burning if you know that it won't be a problem?

Given that your mate Nic92 doesn't believe its a guarantee no problem.

because everyone wants it louder, and will turn it up to the point where the amp IS clipping.

at which point the subs will stop handling 800-1000watts all day long?

So, the OP should run the subs at .5 ohm because the subs will handle 800-1000watts all day long provided it's a clean signal, but "because everyone wants it louder, and will turn it up to the point where the amp IS clipping." it will stop being a clean signal and destroy the subs which will be a **** because he won't smell the voice coils burning (which kind of indicates that it's a little too late anyway)

Think I'm getting this, but I missed the part where impedance rise comes in to save the day.
