I buy citric acid powder from a local health food shop for about $9.00 a KG and mix about 6 table spoons in water.
If you wanted to remove heavier rust probably add more,those calipers I ran a hand wire brush over after rinsing with normal water and then sprayed them with caliper paint.
I didn't use sand blasting as it was too fiddly (I was too lazy) to mask up the cylinders and the compressor shat itself so was sort of plan B.
*Wear gloves as your hands will get black.
