Why do you think my car wont turn over?

It almost does, or does for a second, then dies. It sounds like a flooded engine and if I keep turning it over, I hear a loud popping, like a small explosion of fuel.
It started the other night. After about 20 turns, it kicked over.

I am thinking:
1. Fuel pump has gone. This has happened before. But it sounds like fuel is getting through.
2. Starter motor. My brothers went and we couldnt start it at all.

I have clewned the engine out with carby cleaner. It drives ok, but lately it was getting harder to start.

Could be your key man.. The little silver ball flogs out on them causing it to not start properly and eventually not start at all.

when was the fuel filter changed ?

the car wouldnt try to turn over if it was the starter motor, i had that issue with an old car of mine.

Doesn't sound fuel filter related to me. Checked all the fuses?

how come the starter motor doesn't keep turning over , sounds like everything just dies after ignition.

maybe it's your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor )

As i said before it sounds Exactly like a key issue.

I had a burnt out fuel pump about 3 years ago. They replaced the pump and fuel filter. It was from driving on empty all the time-never did it again.

Electrics work and it turns over (almost), so I don't think the key or starter is an issue. It's like the isn't spark or something. The popping sounds like backfire.

I changed the leads and plugs about a year ago. Battery is only about a year old.

If it was the fuel pump, would that cause this to happen?

Going back to the key, to start it, I have had to turn the key in one movement ie. It does not start from Accs position. I airways had to turn it off completely, then full turn to start. And it never started the first time, but almost every time the second time.

It could be carbon buildup. I've had that before with this car. I cleaned it up pretty well.

If it was the fuel pump, would it even be kicking over at all?

you have a security issue key not reading etc thats why it only cranks a short time and why it wont stay running
