hi everyone
was wondering what are the clues and what have you people experienced to know it may be time to change jobs and what you could to try and hang on a little bit longer or until you have another plan or are ready to follow the plan.
have worked in hospitality for 13 years as most of you know and are starting to think about a change as its too hard now and its time to get out, not only that the place is for sale and theres a few interested in buying it and planning to be out when it sells.
am wanting to do electrical test and tag and tv antenna installs and maybe other odd jobs and do the required training bit by bit.
at the local mens shed someone came and put a tv antenna up for the new lounge room that has recently been built and was likely originally going to get the job.
because of that its made me think about how much am wanting to follow the goal and/or get out of hospitality and do something interesting to get money.
at the moment am not in a position to follow the work goals as much as am wanting to get out the current job even doing it on side to start off with and dont own a house and it could be years given price of everything today and do at same time feel positive however nothing will happen overnight.
not only that the family that am likely to be able to think of cant really afford to do anything at moment.
what could you do to have the chances until you are able to get out of your job and be able to do that as with test and tag instead.
if the new owner wants to keep you on what is a professional way to explain that you will be happy to stay for a little while long enough to get you on track but unfortunately due to business/work goals that you wish to follow you don't plan to stay forever but you may stay to supplement it until you get too busy to stay, do you give heads up.
or do you just take offer if they would like to keep you if you haven't found anything else and just give notice when you are actually ready to leave.
Most of you also know about the shop being for sale and that most places take about 2 years to sell, what am wondering is do you lot think the shop will be successful in selling or the decision to close books will be made or is it upto you to do something and not wait around if you want to get out and do something else.
Want to get out as feel that after 13 years in hospitality that it’s time to start thinking about moving on but am hanging out until shop sells because of loyalty to owners plus haven’t got all training done yet for next move.
Sometimes get concerned as place may sell before all training is done, plus was brought up to never leave a job until you have another or another plan incase it takes a while unless business sells but if it sells before all training is done may just have to take a couple detours and just offer services that you did training for and just build up.
Most of you also know about the hospitality job, do and have felt that since 2020 it’s gotten harder and harder and noticing that all places in that industry ours included is short staffed and people have left after not being back for long once full service was able to resume.
Why do you lot think people have handed in their notices after only being back for 2 weeks after shutdown when they could open.
Plus with our food place a 65 year old co worker has left to retire and that’s made it so much harder for the rest of us and the place is already running on skeleton team and because of the worker leaving the rest of us are taking on more.
Plus it feels like you are always getting called in and that there is always someone who can’t work and you’re having to come in on your days off and you value your scheduled days off.
Would any industry other than retail or hospitality have less chance of having to come in on your days off,
Sometimes may get concerned that place will sell before having done all training but if it does then may have to take a couple detours and just offer services for training you did and just do the rest as you go.
also want to ask here as well,
was wondering if there is a way to get some training to use welding equipment at the local mens shed to cover the shed if something happens before you are financially ready to pay for welding course or use of power tools course to be able to use grinder and welding equipment.
most of you know the place of work is for sale and may sell at anytime and because of that am trying to do as much at a time as possible towards it.
at moment have the whs course, test and tag refresh (whole test and tag thing again with whs if it ends up being as cheap or cheaper to do it again) and the work at heights and white card course plus the running business side course to get building contractor license plus relevant courses and cant afford to do the welding one too at moment which would cover welder and cut off saw.
do plan to do all above courses just cant afford it all at once and trying to do as much as possible at a time incase shop sells quick but cant afford to do courses or training for the local mens shed welding equipment at moment just to be able to use it.
what would be a stop gap solution to all above until the money is there to be able to pay for all training as all that training is going to cost money.
hoping to make 15 years at current work place hopefully a little longer but dont expect to make 20
thanks
