Installing HUD into non HUD vehicle.

You don't need to remove all the column trim to swap it over just the carbon strip above then that cove will pull straight out, series 2 manuals was push button start so no ignition barrel to worry about when using the hud buttons

I have already tried to install that way but unfortunately it hits on trim around the ignition barrel, it’s close to fitting but not quite, removing the column trim should allow me to fit it and then see if the column trim fits after it’s in place.

So I have all the parts I need to do this just a matter of finding the time to pull the dash out and install it.
I have one concern not sure if any will know but can the new HUD control switch trim panel fit were the old one was with the ignition barrel?, it looks like it will either just fit or not quite fit, I do have a back up plan if it doesn’t fit and always did as I wasn’t sure if it was going to fit or not.

I know @VFSV6FORME had to modify his one to get it to fit but that’s not really an option for the OEM HUD set up.

Does you car have a Ignition key on the right where the key was there for 20 years, if so forgot about it as you car has be to converted to push button start. that alone stop me fitting the Genuine HUD to my car, it easier to buy a used car with it and some of them have dulled by 50% because of age and time used.

I take it back @vywgn you are right, what I didn’t realise is that the steering wheel column is actually telescopic so I just pulled the steering wheel out a bit and it whet in piece of cake, pushed the steering wheel back into place and job done, the steering wheel is about 10mm further out than before but hardly even noticeable.
Happy it will look factory and don’t have to modify anything.



@VFSV6FORME i now see what you mean about the fading the new trim is a bit darker than my trim, might have to leave it direct sunlight for a few weeks

I haven’t actually installed the HUD yet as I was concerned that the control switch panel wasn’t going to fit and thought I would have to work on plan B, but now I know that fits I can start on the full install. Unfortunately this isn’t a plug n play set up and I am going to have to splice into wires to get it working, I know which wires I need so it’s really just a matter of finding time to install.

For anyone interested I got the HUD installed today and all works and looks mint, took me probably about 6 hours over 2 days, mostly because I was doing it while trying to keep an eye on 3 young children. It was pretty straight forward and only ending up splicing into 2 of the wires in the dash loom. Unfortunately I didn’t take many photos of the progress, once I got to reassembling everything I completely forgot to. As for it working on the windscreen it works fine, has a little bit of double vision but nothing major.
I could do a step by step if anyone is interested or feel free to ask any questions if you need some guidance/advice on doing it yourself.

Guessing the double reflection is from the laminated windscreen?

Sits straighter than a HUD on a ZB.

Can fully appreciate how hard it is to do anything on the car while being responsible for small humans. Every few minutes... “Dad can I come out from under the stairs?” Or “Dad, how long do I have to sharpen knives?” Or “Dad, I need a poo” etc
