How do the direct injected engines go with getting gummed up with carbon?

No fuel down its throat means carbon is a certainty, just the when can be managed by perfect running so the burn is as clean as possible. Walnuts have never been so valuable

I'm lucky I get best of both in the 86 now. Toyota set up their D4S system on those Subie engines. So I've got direct and port injection.
I think a lot of the few ICE engines that come along now will follow. It eliminates the carbon build up but also gives the DI advantages.
