To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been a XR8 sold for less than $58K, and that's a manual.... Auto's about 62K. Dealers will not budge on them and given how short supply they are they don't need to.

All this talk too of $52K for the XR8 is horribly misleading... The reality is once you add on-road costs its north of $59K just for manual.

With MY16 SSV Redline out later this year and rumored to contain the LS3 I have 2 questions, 1) what state of tune will it come with and in a broader sense 2) what are the practical differences between the 317, 325 and 340? hardware or just tune.?

For a $1500 buck tune only you'll get the XR8 to over 400rwkw, so there goes your "economical mod" theory... You will have to spend 10 times that on the Redline for the same result.

If the abysmal fuel economy I got from E85 V E10 is anything to go by im not surprised. 2.5L/100 worse..

FH XR8 gets brembo's, RSpec suspension and Staggered width Rims, so performance wise its a match for the Redline and will smash it in a straight line. Drive Away pricing isn't confirmed yet but the 45-50K talk is completely unrealistic.

Cant find the auto start set-up in the menu?? It lists it in the main menu but not the sub menu, It wont work on the key fob.

To the best of my knowledge VF2 (or update whatever they call it) SS will get base tune LS3 as per US model and HSV range get the new motor. This will happen at some point next year.
