I am replacing the timing chains in my 04 vz sv6 and have had to change the cams as they were pitted. i was sent cams from a ve sv6 sidi so having the longer one cut down. My question is how to set them up for the timing?

I had exactly the same issue in my vz sv6 and am currently doing the chains. I highly recommend getting the chains now as the crank chain got so loose it broke the bottom guide on the oil pump and wouldn't start. I have had to pur hase a new oil pump as well and a set of cams as the lobes were...

Try a new slip ring,I had the same issue and it wasn't reading the key.

That is exactly right. I had the same issue and got a new key which didn't solve the problem. I undone the 2 screws, removed the key and lightly sanded it clean and made sure the sensor touched the key reader slip ring and it worked.

You can have the ECU reprogrammed for a lot less than a new ECU. Second hand ones are ok if you have the security code for it.

They will do 225, but to all those wanting more speed, buy a faster car.

Have to agree with you there, especially where dealerships are concerned. The job is pretty straight forward if you take your time so a weekend will see it done.

Mate you got ripped off big time. You can buy the complete kit for $500. What year is your vz?

I would be taking him to small claims as an engine rebuild is only 500 more than he charged just for the timing chains.

For an extra $500 you could have had the engine rebuilt. You've been done over bad old mate,typical of today's so called mechanics. Hope everything gets sorted for you.

After working in the trade I haven't put my car in to a mechanic since as they do not do the job properly and charge for Labour they haven't done. You would be lucky if a qualified mechanic does the job as most services are done by an apprentice and you get charged full rate. As for pricing...

From searching endlessly I have found the one tool that keeps coming up and rang the bloke in Perth who designed it. It is an ELM327 but you need a laptop to use it. It is supposed to read all codes including transmission. The company name is ENVYOUS CUSTOMS.

Sounds like a sticky or stuffed sender unit,maybe the float is buggered?
