    Holden Hurricane

As the person who started this thread, I’m still here, though mostly I lurk (and search for info I’m chasing for the restoration of my VX Berlina). I’ve loved the Hurricane since I first saw a pic of it on Holden’s website over 20 odd years ago.

    Car Tracking and Theft

I also use Prolocks in my cars, which I also extend as far as possible, I have the same problem as you and tend to need to play with it to get the lock to engage when unlocking. Sadly as it seems real Club locks are no longer available in Australia these are probably our best bet.

    Car Tracking and Theft

Funnily enough I use Airtags to track my own cars in case one happens to go somewhere without me. Also use club locks and in the case of the VN, a boot/wheel clamp. Yes, I’m paranoid. :) (Yes, I know club locks and boots aren’t impenetrable, but at the very least they’ll slow any would be thief...

    VT Commodore Vs AU Falcon

Mechanically, while the VT is pretty robust (especially in V6 form), the AU is even moreso, the Intech is pretty hard to kill - one of the reasons it was so popular with taxi operators (along with them being very economical on gas). Plus, AUs seem to be respected these days thanks to the “AU...

    Wreckers

Was disappointed to see Pick ‘n Payless go. Depending on how far you’re willing to travel there’s Dapto Pick a Part or Northern Auto Wreckers (near Penrith).

    VX spoiler bolts

Hi all, I’ve picked up a VX factory spoiler and a VX boot lid with factory drilled holes for the bolts that I want to put on my VX Berlina, however I don’t have the bolts to secure the spoiler to the boot lid. I assume I can get bolts from Bunnings that will suit, just wondering what ones I...

    Ecotec into VZ conversion

Honestly, given that you’d basically need a donor car to get everything from (and I mean EVERYTHING, engine, K-frame, wiring loom, etc), plus the possibility of the Ecotec computer not being compatible with the VZ’s electrical system, best way to do it is to simply sell your VZ and buy a VY...

Have car manufacturers really technologically advanced at all?

Hi all, long time member, haven’t posted in ages but still occasionally lurk and couldn’t help but chime in here. As a 37 year old, I watched cars go through massive leaps in power, economy, fuel economy, reliability, safety, and comfort throughout the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. Driving a car made...

Vc starfire to 253 or 308?

Honestly, these days I'd keep it as is, or even sell it and buy a 6 cyl or V8. Starfire Commodores are a rare breed these days.

How in the hell does the bastard harmonic balancer come off?

Interesting, that looks promising, and I'd rather save the balancer if I can. What size bolts did you use?

How in the hell does the bastard harmonic balancer come off?

I thought the same thing, and bought this one - https://www.australianonlinecarparts.com.au/vn-commodore-harmonic-balancer-puller, but still no go. From what I can tell there's just nowhere for it to screw in unlike the old balancer.

How in the hell does the bastard harmonic balancer come off?

Hi all, I need to replace the CAS in my VN Calais “Series 1.5” (Series II car with Series I engine). About a year ago I replaced the harmonic balancer with a new Powerbond one. When I removed the old one I used a puller from Supercheap and got the correct bolts and washers from Bunnings and had...

    Refurbishing more modern vehicles.

I have a 1994 Mazda GE 626 that I bought a couple of years ago as a project. The main issues I've found with it, being a 90's car are as follows: - Paint. Clear coat in the 90's wasn't fantastic, and with my car having spent most of its life in the sun, the clear coat is going in a few places...

    New VN owner, some questions

Hi all, Been a while since I've been on here, anyway I picked up a VN Calais V6 yesterday, its in relatively good shape, completely grandpa spec, and my plans are more or less to just drive it and enjoy it. First time behind the wheel of a VN and I'm loving it. Anyway, some questions: 1. On...

    Collingwood Commodore...

To be honest, as someone else said, if they were to sell this without the Collingwood crap, it would actually be a damn nice car. But I expect it'll sell well among fans.

    VS Commodore changing rear speakers

Assuming you're not counting the front tweeters in the 6 speakers you've found, the tweeters + front door components + rear door speakers + rear parcel shelf speakers make up your 8 speakers. Most car manufacturers do this - for example, my car is supposed to have a 7 speaker sound system - 7...

Work not paying superannuation. Reclaiming interest?

My previous employer decided that they didn't have to pay me super for some reason. Only lasted 6 months there before throwing in the towel for that and other reasons. I got onto the ATO who did an investigation, in the end I ended up getting everything.

How to NOT remove stock headunit

Can you remove the glovebox on a VY/VZ and reach the back of the head unit through the hole that the glovebox normally takes up? I used coat hangers to pull the stock HU out of my AH Astra (which uses the same principle for head unit installation/removal as the VY/VZ), what I ended up doing was...

    CCTV - Shed

Its a no-name camera...like most of the stuff that comes out of the Shenzen shitpits, I wouldn't really expect much from it. Certainly not what I'd expect from a good Pelco, Pacom, Bosch, Panasonic, Sony, or any other decent brand camera. (I know the brands I mentioned cost serious money, but...

Yep - both of mine were the mini dongle. The first one died quickly, second one is much, much better.

Who has got a elm327 to work

I think it depends on good luck, really. I have an AH Astra and have gotten 2 Bluetooth ELM327 dongles to work. One died after about a month, the other has lasted 2 months and is still going strong. That said, mine are plugged in 24/7 as they read data for my carPC.

Help installing stock Blaupunkt into Monaro

They're the antenna plugs - higher level Holdens, such as the Monaro, Statesman/Caprice, Calais, etc have a diversity antenna (built into the rear window) in addition to the main antenna. So long as the previous owner hasn't dicked with the wiring both plugs should be behind the head unit.

Just had a look - while they don't have a specific Holden Astra manual, if the manuals are that good I'm seriously considering getting the Vauxhall Astra manual.

Unrelated: The Captiva is actually sold in the UK, as the Chevy Captiva. I believe most of the other Daewoo sourced Holdens were/are sold there as Chevys as well. The Chevy Lacetti, best known as Top Gear's "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car" car for a few years, was sold here as the Holden Viva.

Death Trap Vehicles banned in Aussie.. sold in NZ

My first, and current car (2007 Astra) doesn't have ESP. Even so, I don't miss it - I've never been in a situation where I'd wished I'd had it to get out of trouble. Still..regardless of whether they have ESP or not, those Cherys are deathtraps, so its for the best.

Astra AH 12v ignition wire location

This might help: http://www.astraownersclub.com/documents/technical/headunitH.pdf But like I said...if you can spend the extra $$$, your best bet would be to go with the proper CANBUS wiring harness. Makes installation pretty much plug and play, guarantees that you won't splice into the wrong...

Dealing with Insurance after a not at fault accident.

I second Calaber...never had to file a claim with NRMA (touch wood), but 3 years ago I was hit by an old fart in a Hilux who tried to overtake me while I was turning right, I went through RACQ (my insurer) and they determined the other driver was at fault and recovered the money through his...
