    Holden V8 Conversion

hey mate, little thread dig but I've just bought a 75 series cruiser with a 304 in it and it seems very underpowered and uses a **** load of fuel. i know yours is 355 but what kind of economy are you getting? cheers

Need help vu ute not running

Hi everyone, Having trouble with my vu ute, was driving home few days ago, it started kind of dying, but wouldn't stall completely, just like a really bad stumble or a miss. Felt like whole engine momentarily dying though, not just one cylinder. Seemed worse under load. After a couple of k's...

just be careful you don't power the starter solenoid at the same time or the car might jump forward and flatten you.

    Dizzy on v8

dizzy orientation doesn't matter at all. what matters is that when the #1 piston reaches TDC on COMPRESSION stroke, the rotor will be pointing at the spot where your #1 spark plug lead will be. as you're turning the motor over to bring it up to TDC, block the spark plug hole with your finger...

304 Anyone heard of or used this intake?

Anyone had anything to do with the procomp efi throttle bodies to suit carby style manifold? less than half the price of a edelbrock etc, could they really stuff up a throttle body that badly?

    Oil pressure gauge always high

the wire from the sender might be cut somewhere and touching metal. grounding the sender wire will cause full deflection on the gauge. either that or the sender itself is shorting straight to ground. how are these gauges installed? i don't know anything about these ones but on aftermarket gauges...

    Volt meter wiring help

I'd say the reason they got rid of them I newer cars is cos no one needs them. Who really needs to know what voltage your car is running at? If the alternator isn't charging the battery light will come on.

    304 v8 timing chain / tension ??

actually, a 4 stroke motor takes only two revolutions to complete the 4 stroke cycle, so the links and dots will align every two turns, provided you begin at TDC #1 firing.

    Spare Wheel? What the...?

so what you wait on the side of the road until they get a rim and tyre that fit your car? or wait an hour for a tow truck and taxi etc? i'd rather just carry a spare and be back on my way in 5 mins.

VX starting issue & check engine light on lpg

But the light only ever comes on when its on LPG, leading me to think its not really the sensor or wiring at all, because if there was a fault with them, the problem would present itself when running on petrol too.

VX starting issue & check engine light on lpg

big thread dig, i have the same problem on a VU with factory gas. runs fine on both systems but after about 10-50km (it varies) on LPG the check engine light comes on. still drives fine with the light on and if i switch it back to petrol the light goes out. any help?

    Oil Pressure Switch Change

a shifter or pair of multi-grips would have done the job. who cares if you damage the sensor nut, its not going to affect the operation of the sensor at all and chances are you'll never have to touch the thing again anyway.

    What makes a cam lumpy?

Tight (small) Lobe separation angle will make it sound lumpy.

    What rims - urgent

205 is fine thats standard commodore size but you don't need anything different just keep the 18s on there. 18s are small anyway just harden up a bit and do it.

Where is the bleed valve located

doesn't sound to me like its overheating. just sounds like you've got a leak. at normal operating temp the coolant will be over 90 degrees so of course the top hose will be hot. the steam and smell simply means you've got hot coolant escaping somewhere - not necessarily overheating.

Is there a way to remove rear springs without a spring compressor?

if its solid axle u can just undo the shock bolts and let the diff drop right down, might need a bit of persuasion sometimes but ive done it a few times getting standard springs out. if its irs i dunno cos ive never worked one one but could be similar.

    Fuse Size For My Amp?

fuses are NOT there to protect the amp. like you said, it has its own 20 amp fuse, it doesn't need another one. Fuses are to protect the cable from getting too hot and starting a fire in the event of a short circuit. Just put in a 30 amp fuse and you'll be sweet - the amp is obviously...

VT exec 317000 KMS white sludgy muck in rad cap.. head gasket failure?

Just flush the radiator out first and see how it goes, as said above the coolant additive pellets can have that effect as well. Next step would be cylinder compression test, wouldn't go buying new head gaskets just yet.

    VN t5 rare box

my v8 t5 looks the same as the one in the second pic. but yes im pretty sure they only came out on the VN, most v8 t5s look like the one from the first pic. have heard that the wider style boxes are better for some reason but can't remember why and really theyre probably the same internally.

    vh auto tailshaft (help)

kinda hard to tell what you've got going on, but if the tailshaft is completely out of the car, then you will want to slide it into the back of the box, then swing the back up and bolt it to the diff.
