I had a vt r8 6 speed ls1 w/ 3.73 diff ratio and got 700km out of a tank both ways bendigo to Canberra and back. Just picked up a ve ss auto from Brisbane and drove it back to bendigo cost $300 for 1800km's and was giving it hell half the way back

VT SS LS1 (Series 2 only), if you want to stretch a tiny bit more, go the VX SS (Series 2).

If your going to get a 5litre, buy a VS SS, as it will be nippier/faster than the VT with the 5litre due to the weight differences.

IMO, go for the LS1

In regards to the economy.

I think you will find that once you get out and cruising on the freeway the 304's economy won't be much different to that of an ecotec.

On my way back from melbourne last week I was sitting on 9.8l/100km in the ecotec and my old 304 VT used to average around 10.5 on the freeway.

Its when you get into the city that its a whole different kettle of fish

But as others have said.....if you care about economy..don't buy a V8

id just by the vx ss and over time do some mods for better fuel economy ect: good exhaust, intake... just things that will help the engine breathe better

even without a tune this should be able to help with the feul economy... that and what would you be thinking when someone pulls up in a vx ss next to your vt ss
