Hi there when I start my commodore up it makes this sound, I think it could be the transmission, and also the power steering pulley. Cheers

Yes, could possibly be the Power Steering Pump, is there any oil in it,
If so, the outlet is possible blocked, which as starved the pump and stuffed the pump,
Also, I would be replacing the pulley bearings [if they are replaceable], I know 2 are, the third is normally plastic moulded one,
Replace it with metal one, so the bearing can be replaced in the future.
Last but not least, replace the bearings in the alternator, Front and Rear, and that should quieten it down.

Hi there would these be the correct pulleys to get? They are steel ones, cheers.

They may well be the correct ones,
Best to check the dimensions of your existing ones, and then check the specs of the new ones,

Mace Engineering (who is a sponsor of JC’s) can supply the correct ones, just give them your VIN number and engine model that is on the compliance plate.

The Dayco web site has the listings & dimension for all their pulleys,
Then use their part numbers as a cross reference,
Then confirm with the seller they are the correct parts,
Bit of messing around, but at least you will get the right part for the job.
Based on an average price, each pulley is worth approx. $18 -$20ea AUD.

Going back to the noise,
I had another listen to it,

I’m tipping it’s the Power Steering Pump,
I purchased a new one for a relative not long ago for $115 inc postage,
If you do buy a replacement PSP,
Make sure you either buy a new PSP Reservoir, or clean the old one with degreaser, as the internal filter (not removable) is possibly blocked.

@Phillbert & @Lex you both are correct, but not enough oil
And if its been run like that for some time,
the PS Pump will most likely be cactus.
