Basic story is when Harrop developed stroker crank early versions were based off chev cranks...welded & machined together to give 11mm stroke or whatever it was to increase capacity later known as 215i/5.7 or strokers.
Reason why they only put 6 speeds behind them was t5 barely handled torque of 5 litres no chance lasting warranty period behind 5.7.
It does sound like an urban myth BUT was near end of the era when Holden engineers were still able to do sneaky stuff like using a vl fitted out with efi 5l running gear as a test car before new model vn was revealed.
