Make sure you’ve got a suitable spanner to do the job (crows foot spanner or socket) and lay down on the engine so you can see what you’re doing, that’s about it.

I cursed the stupidity of them putting the dizzy at the back plenty of times when I had to do the dizzy on my old VS Statesman! Although to be fair it wasn’t really a problem when the engine was originally designed with a carby.

We have a spanner just for dizzys. It’s just the right size to fit.

I usually lay over the bananas so I can reach down (I’m also short)

Sometimes I have seen removing the bonnet, and jacking up the trans a bit just to put some tilt on it, to make it easier to get too.

Mostly I just abuse the wanker who decided this was a good location while doing micro turns on the spanner on the stupid bolt by feel only.

I'd remove the bonnet just so you can get a good look at what you are working with.

It's a **** job on a 304 motor. I removed the intake manifold....

No need to remove the intake manifold. It's a bast..d of a job because of the lack of clearance, but it can be done. Just do it when the engine is cold. Place some thick foam across the inlet manifold so that you can lay on top of the engine with you legs towards the front of the car and your head towards the firewall. Follow the instructions from the Holden VS Workshop manual attached. Sorry, the last picture was unintentional:

I did need to replace the intake manifold gaskets, but it did make pulling the distributor so much easier.

I’ve done it a few times without issue. Just put a few pillows down over the rad support and intake manifold and lay down. Can get a decent visual this way and access isn’t too difficult. Just have a little patience with it.

There is/was a picture somewhere on this forum of Morton standing on the strut towers with a rope tied around the dizzy trying to get it out of his VQ (i think it was)

Sooo, good luck if its that tight.

Yes, yes it was. I was thinking off that too but might be hard to find.

edit: I found the thread but the pictures weren't hosted on this site and the link to the pics is broken. Shame really, it was a great pic.
