Hi guys

I used to have my 6x9s (400w peak) in a VP and they were great. I've just put them in my VS and they are very quiet and very distorted - they basically sound stuffed. When I removed them from the VP they were fine, and have just been sitting in a box in the shed.

In the VP they ran off a 45x4 deck with standard speaker wire, front 6" and no amps.

VS has 50x4 deck and amped splits - standard wire to the rear (stock) speakers.

Please tell me what might be wrong - I don't know much about audio and it's got me stumped.

Cheers
Bec

Have you mounted them differently? Were they mounted in wood but now to steel?

If you wire one backwards to the other, the bass will cancel out and they're sound very "trebley". Might be a possiblilty.

I just tested them a bit better - high and mid range aren't quite so bad. Bass is gone. Cones are plastic.

These went very hard which is why I'm hoping they aren't wrecked. But I don't understand what could happen to them just sitting in a box for a month....... ugh

Edit: I tried swapping the wires over - didn't change at all :(

Perhaps the amplifier in the head unit is damaged and not sending a proper signal to the speakers.

I'm assuming you're running the splits off the amplifier, two channels from the head unit to the stock speakers and now two channels from the head unit to the new speakers?

I too find it hard to believe any damage could have befallen the speakers in a box for a month, but it's not impossible.

bwahahaha....lesson 1. Never make your final decision about your sound until the car is back together. Never mind that you still don't like it and have to pull the car apart again.

Good example is my VN. Had the seat out to get the wires to the 6x9's in the back plugged them all in, and my girlfriend was bitching that there was no bass. The I put it all back together and started shaking the rear view mirror with it.
