dr bob its all aligned fine and i know 1st isnt slipin coz of electrics but thats still not sayin why it aint selecting the right gear while the car is running but its fine when the cars off and as for the battery its brand new and aint the alternator.

without seeing it its hard to say but id have to say you need some professional help with this, first get the battery problem sorted out, then get an auto specialist to look at it

you will have to mod the wiring harness to match up with the car, its a messy job but can be done. you will loose the immobiliser system as well.

it will take some messing around to get it all going.
best option would be to get another VR engine & trans

you will need to either use a VS manual wiring harness.
make sure your VS auto pcm is compatible with the manual speed sensor as some of them dont have all the required hardware to work correctly.
then you will need to get a manual memcal with the correct speed sensor for the T5.

Ok doctor bob i pm'd you last night with a question and went away to have another play after you reccomended i check the IAC wiring etc. I couldnt find any problems so i tried returning everything to normal (sorta) and it runs fine (i think the error codes i quoted were from me tooling around unplugging stuff). My new question is what could make my car run like crap because the throttle body and MAF are on the end of the intercooler....it is essentially a length of pipe! but it runs fine when i mount the TB and MAF directly onto the plenum.

short story, yes, the maf is pretty finnicky about its airflow, get the codes cleared & see what goes on but i think you will have to resort to putting it back the way it was.
or get it tuned
