VX Series 1 Berlina wagon 3.8L
vx berlina - strange codes and warning chime

Hi Dr Bob,

I've been informed that you are the person to talk to about this, so I will simply paste in most of my original query from elsewhere in the JC forums.

Quote:

My car is a VX Series 1 Berlina w/ 3.8L Ecotec engine. There have not been any serious problems since I bought it Nov last year, and as far as I know it is stock standard.

Earlier today I had been driving around, and stopped for a few minutes ( engine off, car locked, etc). Came back and started the car, and the trip computer played a musical-sounding chime at me, the security light on the trip comp control was flashing quickly, and the TRAC OFF light came on and wouldn't go off. I'm not sure if there were any other lights on the dash.

The chime had 3 or more different tones to it - I can't remember exactly how it went. I also couldn't find any info in the owner's manual on these chimes. The engine wasn't overheating, and I hadn't even put the trans out of Park, let alone moved the car.

I turned off the engine and tried restarting - everything normal again, and it hasn't done it since.

I have since checked the computer error codes using the vt-vx2 pdf file from this forum (thank you to whoever posted that - I can't remember who it was), and get a fault code readout as follows: 1 flash, short pause, 2 flashes, short pause, 5 flashes, short pause, 5 flashes, long pause, code repeats.

The short pauses are all the same length, and there is no ten-flash ten-flash preceding the 1-2 as posted by some. It appears to be giving a code of 1-2-5-5, and not 12 then 55. I tried resetting the fault codes by disconnecting both batt terminals for at least 1 minute, and the code is still the same.

So far, I haven't found much on the internet about either of these problems. Can anyone help? I might try talking to Holden tomorrow to see if they have can shed some light on this.

End Quote.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks, Jasiel.

P1255 is the code for Theft Deterrent Signal Missing, used to be code 31
by the sound of it with the light flashing like that the BCM had a small lockup, its a relatively common thing & can usually be reset by pulling the BCM fuse for 30 seconds.

Thanks. I didn't know what it was, and the guy at Holden didn't either. I appreciate the assistance.

10 Bolt Holden diff centres - differences

g'day

wondering if you can help regarding how to identify a diff carrier (hemisphere) for a Holden 10 bolt (large salisbury) found in the HQ - WB Holden range and VB - VK V8's.

I understand there are 2 carriers - 1 for the 2.60/2.78 ratio, and one for the rest - 3.08 ratio etc. I have been told they have a slightly different offset due to the crownwheel/pinion size differences.

The carrier I have has the following markings on it:
Aust patent 222888
then the following numerals spaced around the carrier (where the crownwheel bolts on):
2
731
028-140
0

I have been informed the 028-140 code identifies this carrier as a 1 tonner type, however do not know what ratio it is suitable for.

thanks

Hi Bob.
Lately my car has been idling a little higher than normal occasionally, around 900-1000 rpm. It always idles properly on start up and only increases after a fair bit of driving. It doesn't always idle high, just now and then, a few times a day. I cleaned the IAC valve but no difference. About the same time this started, my traction off warning light comes on nearly every day as well.
I don't know if these two things are related or a separate issues but I thought you might know where I should start looking.
Thanks Gerry.
