HI, I have a cammed VF2 (352RWKW) that has just had a 3200 Dominator converter fitted, took it to my tuner to tweak the auto.

When testing from stand still, if i give it full noise 1st-2nd is fine but 2nd to 3rd neutralises for about 1 second (eng hits rev limiter) then changes into 3rd and starts spinning the wheels again. when it does change it goes in hard (no slip). Tuner put the standard trans file back in in case it was something in his adjustment but made difference, i asked him if it was the torque management but he said its not that.

This fault had done this a couple times previous to the converter but i had never really given the car full noise from standstill. When the mech fitted the converter i got them to do a service on the trans and they said the oil was still in good condition ( only slight colour change of the oil).

Does anyone have any advice on further testing as mech is saying the box might be u/s, Im thinking it might be the trans Module as when in manual mode from idle to 7000rpm there doesn't feel like any slip when locked in each gear so i suspect its something to do with the module, driving around town car is fine, its only when above 5000rpm this happens.
Im trying to book in with a trans specialist but they are all booked out for months where i live :(

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

dosnt sound like a fault as such but the trans tune has to be setup correctly to suit the converter and shift times/rpm, apply/release and so on, there is alot to do and not all people know how to change the tables to suit, @hjtrbo has played with trans and stalls would prob have a good idea about it, manual mode changes alot of areas so if that helps it more then likely just a tuning issue

Be careful on the standard trans tune with a aftermarket converter. Send an email to dominator and ask them if it's single or multi disc. Then ask about if the frictions are designed for continuous slip and also ask if the converter is rated for WOT lock up. All those questions must be know as it determines which way the tune goes.

Few things it could be. Would need to see a log. Ask your tuner if they will take a log and allow it to be sent to me with the tune. If he agrees hit me up and I'll send you the channel list that they will need to get a good log.

@hjtrbo , would you be able to send the channel list. I am happy to do some loging and have a base line to compare. My trans is supposedly good. I also want to keep a log to compare when my trans go bad !

Ops I missed one detail . I forgot the machine in question has way more mods than mine. So not a good base line for this issue. However having the list of channels would be great

Cool.

Just be very very aware that if you do have a converter not designed for continuous slip and not designed for WOT lockup you will quickly destroy the converter lining(s) on the factory tune. The fun part about that is that is once it gets down to the metal it will spread crap to every part of the transmission and ruin it.
