Try some grease on the lock pin. The old stuff dries out and the bonnet wont pop open.
This extra friction doesn't help the cable!

thats exactly what i did
opens no problem now

Sorry about the hijack, but does anyone know what might cause the bonnet not to close unless the lever to open the bonnet inside the car is pulled out first.Ive had this happening the last couple of weeks,It makes it impossible to close the bonnet when Im by myself.I havent had a chance to have a good look at it yet,but I thought Id ask to see if someone here might have had the same problem. It seems like the locking spring in the hole is over too far in the centre of the hole for the tapered head of the locking pin to push it back out of the way as it closes,(if you get what I mean). The pin just hits the spring which stops the bonnet closing until the spring is pulled back to the side of the hole by pulling the bonnet lever in the car.The tapered head of the locking pin should push the spring back to one side, as the locking pin goes into the hole.

The spring has still got heaps of tension,it just seems like its it too far over in the centre of the hole for the taper on the lock bolt head to push it to one side.

I put wd-40 in the latch hole and tightened up the spring as per image below.

No probs now!
