304 Cam upgrade

hey guys its time for me to do some engine work
im not after power just a tuff noise.

its all stock apart from a 3" cat back.
thinking of throwing a 286 cam/lifters/springs/chain in

been reading around and its a good time to shave the heads too
and change the manifold, and put a stally in.

really dont want to change manifold as im not guna be racing the car or anything, purely just doing it for the noise.

anyone know what else i have to do, and maybe a rough price on parts?

already read it mate, thats why i posted here as it didnt really answer all my questions im not taking this car down the 1/4 as its too heavy and just the wrong platform to start with

OK, what i don't get is, why you would want to go to all the effort of putting a cam in "just for the noise".....I mean, if you're going to that extent, why not make the combo work and make more power? An aftermarket cams primary purpose is power production, the sound is just somewhat of an added bonus. Each to their own i guess....

You can probably get the noise youre after by fiddling around with just the tune anyway

nah, dont forget the awesome fuel economy you get from a 286! its not just note.

Your ready to spend thousands to lose drive quality and increase fuel consumption just to get a lump note at idle? You cant be serious! Why dont you find out what cam is going to suit the set up you have then enjoy the note that it will make. spend 3.5 and get it done properly. If you go for a massive cam and the car sounds killer and goes nowhere, me aswell as everyone else reading this is going to be laughing at you.

mate we modified engine to get horse power not Loos power get a cam that will give you power and noise

and other things done.

also going to add either a 3000 stall or 3500
