Its about time i got a new camera and its time for a Digital SLR, I want to spend up to $1000. I will primarily be doing car and weather shots. Ive been looking at the canon 500d cause my friend has one and it seems to be very good but i thought id ask around for some opinions.

You won't regret getting a 550d. Can get some slick shots with it, and those lenses should do you fine :) buy a 50 f1.8 though mang, $120 and you can get the narrow depth of field effect on the front of a car etc.

I luuuurrve my nikon d3100. Comes with twin lense also and is a breeze to use. I also looked at the canon but even though it sounds silly the nikon just felt better in my hands, personal choice really.

i have a 500D and there a lot of bang for your buck. the pics that it took went into my portfolio that lead me to my full time photography job. the 550D was released about 2 months after i bought it otherwise i would have went with that. either or, you'll be happy because there an excellent beginners/intermediate camera.

its not really the camera body that makes the shot. the better the lens the better the shot. The lens is what gives it the clarity and that is what usually costs the most.

A 400d would even suffice, i used that to get into my course and was extremely happy for the price i got it for.
I'm using a 500d at the moment and am always pleased with the results.

You'd be ecstatic over the 550d once you learn how to use it properly!
