Camshaft removal

Hi all,

I am currently tearing down a Ecotec out of a vt. I am a little stuck getting the cam out. Is this because it is simply stuck? Or am I missing anything? Everything is out bar the cam and balance shaft. I am sure it's just stuck but I don't want to force anything.

have u unbolted the front plate that holds the cam in?

If its jammed you may have a problem! The risk is that one of the bearings may be caught. If you accidentally pull a bearing out you will need to have the block remachined oversize thru the cam tunnel

Once the cover plate is unbolted, the cam should slide out nicely, keep turning it while you do and dont force anything. If you pull a bearing out, you will be spending alot of cash. I recommend you take it to a mechanic to have it done. Might save you alot..

Have you taken all the lifters out??????

Be careful not to damage the cam bearings as you withdraw the cam from the block

I was ABOUT to say that too..... assumed that by him saying "everything's out" he meant that the cam was the last part in there
