There are a few things you can do on the VR trans to help it. One is getting the valve body reamed and a bigger valve fitted, which takes care of a common problem with these. Also a Transgo reverse boost valve will help smooth up shifts while adding more line pressure. A Corvette servo is a good idea too but they are fairly hard to fit and set up. A 3500 stally is worth it too, even with mild upgrades.
I’ve heard of the Corvette servo. Do you know how much the genuine ones go for? I see plenty of these servos online but they appear very cheap to be genuine

A Transgo one will be fine. Transgo parts are generally quality.

And ream which valve? There are heaps in there.

Personally I lile Sonnax parts. I fitted the larger Sonnax .490 reverse boost valve and just that improved things. A lot of the aftermarket parts include O rings in the design which is done to account for bore wear from the factory fitted units.

The tech said to me he would ream valve body for me and fit a bigger valve as its a common issue with these which makes them throw a code, I can't remember which code. When he pulled it out it had already been done so he didn't need to do it. I'm not suggesting the OP do this himself as it's a specialist job IMHO. Being so long ago it may have been a Sonnax I had fitted too? Sonnax rings a bell now you mention it.

If I was to go back though my VR ute build thread I could probably say what I had done and what parts I bought and which brands I used. But there are 100s of posts to scroll through and I spend too much work time on JC as it is.

Actually @Immortality IIRC the upgraded boost valve might have been a longer one than standard, does that sound right?

Lol, hundreds of pages and thousands of posts might be more accurate.

Hard to say, there are so many upgrade parts available. Sonnax offers a number of kits that ream the bore for what ever valve that is been replaced with an oversize unit.
