May I suggest you have 2ppl on hand to re-insert the tube,
One under the car with your hand under the exhaust manifold where the dipstick tube inlet is, the other person fitting it down from the top and the person underneath guiding it in,
Then secure it with the bolt as required.

hmm, not sure the one you mentioned,
As I only remember inserting the tube on a LFX replacement some time ago,
Or
you could be lucky enough to get a hole in one.

It came out, it has to go back in,
Going by memory, the tube insert is on the body of the engine,
Not the side of the sump.

Yeah the hole that I’m talking about is on the side of the block so I don’t think it’s that one. I noticed you had an ly7 the same as me, if you’ve got time tomorrow mate could you try and take a photo of where it is?

Recently I had to remove the dipstick tube to remove the manifold so I was able to replace the starter motor on my LY7,
When re-assembling it all,
It took some time to locate the DS tube insert, but I got there,
Word of warning, do not distort the tube, as it won’t go back in easy.

It’s in a funny position, you need to twist the tube around a little bit, then jiggle it back in.
But as mentioned earlier, easier with 2ppl.

They is one sure way of refitting it if your by yourself.
Get hold of a old clean coat hanger,
Straighten it out the best you can,
Locate the tube insert hole in the block, place the coat hanger in through the manifold gap, and into the tube insert hole,
Then slide the dip stick tube over the coat hanger wire, and it will follow it down into the insert hole, May need to twist it a little to make it a neat fit, then bolt it up,
Then remove the coat hanger wire.

I did similar of the above to re-fit the breather pipe for the battery in my VE,
Saves disconnecting and removing the battery.
(If you own a VE, you will understand the frustration of accidentally pulling the breather pipe out.
