When I had the falcon, it was stolen.. the **** that took it, stole my Panasonic hadunit (worth $150 but still) and my Laptop.. If i ever saw someone breaking into a car.. theyd wish they were nevr born..

btw, the car was NOT insured for theft at the time so I was left without.. :(

Or maybe they need a face cover for theirs?
Or maybe its a trophy to move how many cars they've taken to their mates?

just installed my pioneer sterio. Instead of putting all the shibby covers on mine though, i just left the stock ones on, and without looking really closely, you can barley notice. I did this on purpose to try to deter bloody thieves. the only noticably thing is the headset, and when i remember, i usually take the face off and take it with me.

I must have been lucky so far, but my brother has been robbed...

His car was parked on a street outside his girlfriends house and his car was screwdrivered and stereo stolen.
Going to Crown Casino one night, he decided to park in a dark street instead of paying for parking. He had an alarm, and they broke in (all this while alarm going) and took his amplifier, dual subwoofer, Sony stereo and remote but not the face plate. The crooks even took his Karate gear. We think they were a gang doing it all the time. They used pliers to cut all the wiring. Possibly druggies and they left all their cigarette ash everywhere.
Also outside our house parked in the street, another turkey broke his smaller side window, climbed over and opened the glovebox to press the remote boot switch but it had been disconnected. So this turkey was looking for equipment in the boot. The alarm was on but didn't go off for some reason. That is fixed now.
Plus there has been many times where the key holes have been screwdrivered.
He was skateboarding at a shopping centre car park one afternoon and he saw his car go by! (Before he had an alarm/immobiliser) He chased after it and yelled 'give me back my car'! The young rat bag jumped out and got into another car driven by his mate. He had his wallet, stereo system and all his CD's in the car. They took nothing. Lucky!

My advise is:

If possible, get a remote central locking and alarm with immobiliser and disconnect your locks. They can screwdriver them all day but they can't get in! Use the alarm remote to unlock the doors.
Make sure the alarm has a bright flashing red LED on the driver side dash. I am sure most turkeys would avoid breaking in if they saw a LED flashing on the driver side dash.
Maybe get a couple of small alarm warning stickers and put them on each small side windows.
Tinted windows can help cover what's inside the car.
Avoid keeping breifcases, or any bag visible in the car. Also jumpers can make theifs think you are covering something valuable.
Never leave the face on or have the remote visible.
Do what I did, buy a small 12V strobe and mount it in the car so when the alarm goes off, the car will be flashing like Christmas and every one in the street will see it. Obviously seen best at night.
Disconnect any boot release button in the car. Use the remote outpiut from an alarm.
Never use/leave original CD's in your car. Spend 20 cents a CD and burn them. Would you rather lose a $25 album or a 20c copy?

Anything I missed?

Another trick if you're good could be to put the head unit into the glove box and have the crappy factory cassette deck (in older holdens) on display, who would wanna steal a stocky stereo.. only problem would be if you don't have a stacker you would have to open the glove box to change disc lol

Well that sux for everyone, anythin stolen is bad!!

my story -

1st Vn 5yrs ago, well bein my 1st car i did as much as i could to it, i couple of grand into the stereo, 2 x12" subs, 2 big amps, 1k head unit, awsome splits and 6x9's, equilzier adjuster and a few other little things sounded awsome the system. And sum body else thought the same,

the car was stolen from the front lawn over night, the car had a decent alarm, kill switch and 1 club lock, the buggars sum how go t it to the local oval and stripped everythin and drove it into a big gutter!

Complete rite off,

Insurance cover the lot other than the advanced stereo.

did the same to the replament Vn and the same happend again,

a year or so later bought a vk then and had a simple stereo in it and the buggars nicked the 12" outa the boot. out front of hoem again.

i belive still to this day it was the young fellas livin down the road!

so ive lernt try keep low profile, dont show off ya gear to much(even to who u think are mates)

and i now live in a country town where i can still leave windows down safley!
