Hi all,
Last week my volt gauge was sitting on 15 and after revving up with overtaking it went all the way up till 17 and turned all the electronics off, so I bought a new Mitsubishi alternator and a new battery but doesn't charge, I checked alternator output while running the engine but the multi meter only showed between 1 and 2 volts and kept jumping up and down, but does not charge, I tried everything but no luck, anyone know what the best thing is to do? Do I take it to Holden or can my local auto elec fix this as I have been told by a repco mechanic that he can't read it out coz Hsv don't show up on his tech 2.

where are you measuring to get 1-2 volts
repco mechanic should be avoided as . how can i say this politely. he is a complete ..........
you dont need tech 2 to diagnose an alternator
or is he trying to diagnose pod gauges, seperate issue

Hi Lout, he tried to scan the fault code that came on on the dash but could not do it,
I measured the volts straight from the big cable on the back of the alt to the earth on the jump starter bracket, I always thought that the alternator is in straight contact with the battery and have to have same volts

i dont have a diagram in front of me but you are correct
the heavy cable should go to bat positive. and i dont believe there is a fusible link
trace this heavy cable and look for cable left off at battery clamp or worse put to negative clamp
