So a 20 year old production car manifold design cant be improved upon for a drag racing application?

Yes it can, but the standard manifold is good for way more than the 230kw+ that you're after.

ITBs aren't really for power, more response. You will gain dick all performance by wacking them on an N/A 6 that doesn't rev particularly high. For the cost of building the rest of the engine to make proper use of those ITBs you might as well just go FI and get more power.

This was done on V6 Vengeance and I think it actually lost power.

Do some maths & work out how much your motor could possibly pump at max revs and then start from there. Just understand that for every mm2 larger you make the TB's it *will* cost you something somewhere. Nothing is free.

Really wouldn't bother with any kind of manifold mods uneducated people crap on about how good their twin throttles are but the reality is even I highly strung buick wouldn't 't max out a 65mm 5L throttle body think about it buick v6s have 6 small inlet valves which can only flow so much without FI it doesn't matter how big the inlet into the engine is the restriction is in the head.

The problem hick inlet manifolds do have is air distribution between cylinders, ITBs would solve this problem but the gains are next to nothing powerwise v6 vengence lost power with the 3 smaller TB manifold but dropped around 3 tenths off the Et

The only way you could get close to that sort of power would be to:

  • Stroke the engine to a 4.3L.
  • Throw in the most aggressive cam you can get and some Yella Terra standard ratio roller rockers.
  • Modify the heads (3 angle valve grind, larger valves).
  • Lighten the engine internals to reduce rotating mass.
  • Put on some clarko's pulleys.
  • Port match the intake and exhaust ports in the engine.
  • Upgrade fuel system to be able to run E85 fuel.
  • Then get a really good tune.

Don't forget power is one thing, but if you want your car to go fast you'll need to strip it out. Anything that isn't needed remove it from the car, look at lightening anything on the car to reduce weight (carbon fiber parts, lexan windows ect), also look into reducing wind drag.

All of the above would make your car fast, not really street legal or nice to drive & it would cost a lot to do.

It just depends on how serious you are about wanting it?

^^^ was also done with the original intake manifold design, but ported with a 70mm t/body an modded bend.
but be ready for it to cost abit if your paying someone to do the engine an surronding bits to do it.
