Buy a litre of coolant ( the same as you are using ) and add that to the topup.
As above bled system and have the heat open all the way to let coolant into the heater box.
Good luck mate.

Ok. I have a new heater tap. Been working on the bloody thing for an hour now. One hose off, one clamp off on another hose, 2 screwed hose clamps, a message about God giving us a better life, losing a flat blade screw bit out of my ratchet set later and here I am.

I've been having this same problem for ages, top up coolant and it slowly disappears over a couple of days to a certain level then stays there, can't see any leaks.
I've changed my intake manifold gasket (real fun job), disconnected the heater all together (bypassed the heater tap), and it still happens. And after a drive, the system doesn't appear to be pressurised.
I reckon I might have to actually pay someone to look at it :)

No problem dude.
If I were you i'd get new hose clamps just in case.
Cause mine need replacing me thinks as they dont undo so easily...
Had to put pressure on the clamps to get them undone.
