I've putting a light bar on my (new to me) VZ Adventra wagon. I have an on/off switch mounted inside, wires run from the switch to relay terminals 85/86. Power from the battery is run to 30 and the light is connected to 87. All looks good. How do I make it turn on with high beam on this vehicle. Is it neutral earth? What does that mean?

relay must be switched by negative side , pin 30 12v battery / 86 to switch = switch to ground / 85 to high beam / 87 to light bar .
switch closed light bar works with high beam on , switch open no light bar operation .

Gidday again guys. I did what you advised strgas. My setup looks like this:
I haveLightbar to 87.
Battery with inline fuse to 30.
I have a short jumper lead from 30 to supply power to 86.
the switching wire from the vehicle's high beam circuit goes to 85
The lights switch on and off with the high beam when I select it. Just great!!

To be legal, I have to be able to isolate the lightbar so that it can be switched off. I want to use an LED illuminated SPST rocker switch with 1 brass and 2 silver tags on the back. I haven't wired one of these before, and to be honest, with neutral switching ...I'm lost.
Can I prevail on you one more time to explain where the 3 wires have to go and whether they're + or -.
Much appreciated, my little job is nearly done and so far I've learned a heap thanks to you.

ok extend the jumper wire from 30 to 86 to the switch , switch should read power acc ground ... wire from pin 30 to power . acc wire back to pin 86 and ground to ground .

Hi strgas. Still plodding along with putting in an LED 3 input switch in my free time.
* I've wired the brass contact from the LED switch to chassis ground
*centre switch pin to relay to trigger wire from under the hi-beam relay
*opposite outside switch pin to relay pin 86.
The system works well, and isolates the light bar from hi-beam when selected. The only snafu is that the LED doesn't go on whether the light bar's turned on or off.
I've been over the process, checked all terminations and grounding but can't see what I have missed....or mis-wired!
I'd appreciate any further advice you can give me.

ok i think i see the issue here pin 30 jump wire should be wired to the power terminal of the switch , the ACC terminal wired back to pin 86 of the lightbar relay , ground to ground .
wire to pin 85 should be dropping to ground when high beam is operated ?
recheck pin 85 wire for 0 volts when high beam is on .
