Depending on how many kms you've done, could be warranty. Belts do wear with age and use. Belt does look a bit glazed aswell. I'd definitely be checking out the bearing on the pulleys and tension on the tensioner to see if those are a contributing factor.

Just under 30 000km
Should last more than that...
Could be manufacturing defect

It's booked for a service in late November. Not sure if I should leave it until then or replace sooner..

Yeah, at 30,000km. I'd definitely be questioning it. But also get them to look into anything beyond a manufacturing defect. Don t want it happening again or causing a failure at an inopertune time.

Check around the circumference of the water pump pulley, looks like something was caught between the belt and the pulley causing those marks.

Maybe it was some small object that ended up up there...
I noticed it after taking it for a drive through national park which had heaps of debris on the road.

Hi mate, In NSW they certainly did. This is taken front to rear on an MY17 VFII GD's car with 70000 clicks. For reference - that bolt you see on the right hand side is holding the plate on. The plate seems to have done its job well.
