Dirty fuel... need help please

Hi, my niece is in trouble, she has a VT with an ecotec engine, the car apparently just stopped when she slowed down on the west gate bridge of all places, but anyway she has had a mechanic tell her she has dirty fuel and it needs to be towed [ $ 350 ] it will cost.
So I am wondering if anyone knows if there is anything you can put in the petrol tank to clear it at least to get her home again.
would appreciate any good advise.

I wouldnt be mucking around with it if its on the bridge, get it towed.
It could cost you a whole lot more if you are working on it and someone runs into you.

Yes I agree, It is not on the bridge now though, apparently who ever watches the roads in the city got her off safely on to a side street.

recommend you pump out/drain the fuel tank , replace the fuel filter refill with fresh fuel and pour in a bottle of metho or injector clean .

Did she perhaps use E10 and it's done the damage?

Now it's off the freeway and somewhere safe, make sure the diagnosis was accurate.
Will it start now?
Can you hear the fuel pump?
Check for any fault codes to rule out the usual and common suspects like cas/ignition module http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/checking-error-codes-vt-vx.23665/

Thanks for your advise, the car is at their home now, her hubby has a mate that is a qualified mechanic so they will work it out.
