Recently brought a ecotec motor from a vy manual ute going into auto vy , have removed the blown motor and looked art the crank shaft where the flywheel bolts ( rear main plate area ) it’s the auto crank shaft with no metals dowels , the new motor still has the metal dowels from the manual flywheel.

Question 1
How to remove them or do I grind them down flush
Question 2
Are the pcd of the bolts for the flywheel the same on auto and manual crankshafts

Cheers

Take the dowels out, there is a tool to pull them out. I'd not recommend grinding them off.

Bolt pattern is the same but you use different bolts with a flex plate.

He really only has to swap manuall flywheel for the auto flex plate.
Bolts are there from each flywheel, flexplate.

So, the dowel(s) are only in the manual flywheel, if so can stay?

Dowels are only used with the flywheel, there is some debate about why they are needed.

I don't think a flex plate even has the holes for em.

IIRC those bolts are also TTY so really should be replaced.

Hey new here but I’d like to know how you went with this as I have just done the same thing and found that the hole where converter locates in the rear of the crank shaft is completely different size. (Hopefully I haven’t been screwed as it’s supposedly a vy series 2 motor from manual )

VR V6 Ute, VS V6 snotbox,VG Ute.
You may have to remove the spigot bearing from the back of the crank. (If fitted.)
