Hi chaps, i should be migrating to Oz in the next 12 months or so and i wanted to take my Vauxhall Omega 2.5 TD with just for economy purposes and the reliability of the BMW power plant nesting under the bonnet the only thing that is putting me off is the availability of parts or un-availability as the case may be! Im looking at moving to Perth so any advice you chaps can offer id be most grateful.

Thanks

Dominic

your best option would be threw a bmw dealer, i dotn know if they run the bmw deisel over here, as small car's like that with deisel arnt very popular over here, but you just never know, there would be a bmw dealer in perth somewhere, where i dont know, im on the other side of the country. dont know about regestering that car over here, not sure on the rules, im sure if it was passed and re plated to aussie standards id say she would be right, but deisel over here is more expensive then petrol for example, up here in qld at this particular point in time tonight deisel is $1.22 a litre, where unleaded is 96c a litre (that depends on what part of qld you are in ofcourse

The BMW 2.5 Diesel is not in Australia. Just the 3.0-litre in the X5. Registering it in Australia should be easy so long as the car passes EVERY Australian Design Rule (ADR) up until when the car was built. All states are different in Australia though... but I saw an Escort XR3 in Sydney tonight (they weren't sold here...).

Oh forgot to say... BMW can ring overseas and get the part in easy for you. The real problem is that the Omega isn't sold here in any way or form so if you need a new body panel then you're in a bit of trouble (the Commodore body panels are different).

One thing to realise that our deisel (I think, any corrections??) is of poorer quality tha ole blighty. This might cause problems. I would research this to a)prove me wrong b)save you some money.

Here is a link for whats required for importing a car into Australia.

As for getting parts some of the Kiwi members might be able to say whether these cars or engines were sold over their. They seem to take cars from all parts of the globe that we don't get here.

thanks guys that been most helpful, the motor is 100% reliable, and even though its a 2.5 (big engine for england) i still get 55/60 mpg on long motorway runs but with the comfort of 6 cylinders, the engine is the same as used in the BMW 325td, 525td, 725td, vauxhall Omega 2.5td and finaly the Range Rover Vogue TDI.

I can post some pics if anyone would be interested?
