Hey guys so currently working on trying to get my dads car running, car starts sometimes and other times it doesn’t was starting to think it was either key problem or crack angle sensor problem but I got my new scan tool today and scanned it and it came up with these codes

16 abs/etc fault logged
17 bcm fault logged
19 pcm fault logged
20 sdm fault logged

129 left peripheral acceleration sensor line fault
130 right peripheral acceleration sensor line fault
163 sdm internal fault

Also had a airbag light on the dash

And I’m just trying to shine some light on what these codes actually mean, is it something where I have to replace pcm, bcm etc.. or is there more to it?

Any information or help with these codes would be appreciated

The car is a vx Berlina also

The airbag light is impossible to get rid of without:
a) rectifying the source of the problem (usually the clock spring needs replacing) and
b) resetting the code with either a Tech II or Envyous Customs software.
You should also declare your solidarity by displaying one of my "let there be light" stickers on your bumper or tool box or bedhead, or wherever you think it'll look best. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184346482618

Car was also sitting for about 2-3 years and was occasionally started but went about a year or more without being started

I have one of those.

Faults 16 to 20, those appear to be cluster fault codes.

129, 130, don't know what they are? Never heard of them before.
Car is a vx. v6 or v8?

163, l couldn't find.
161 is the last one listed.

But because it says internal fault, maybe the wiring connector has to come off & connectors checked cleaned.

When it won't start, try locking & unlocking with the fob, then try starting.

What is the sdm might be a stupid question just never heard of it before?

It starts most times on first go (tends to struggle but starts) but once you turn the car off and try again it tends to not start, will unlocking and locking then starting if that works would it be a key fob fault?

I was going to get a new key fob and program it but wanted to ask these questions first as I’m still kinda new to the whole electrical side of these cars and want to learn about it all

From what I have read up on 129 and 130 they are air bag related (if what I’ve read is correct) not sure how yet to do more research on that part but couldn’t find anything else on the others mentioned

Sensing & diagnostic module. It's for the airbag & pre tensioners system.

This is possibly from the pre tensioners?
But these errors are tied into the airbag & pretensioners system.

Before we get into this, why was the car layed up for 2 - 3 years? What was the problem?

Car was sat there due to this current problem of not starting, the car would start my dad would drive it somewhere go to get back in and it wouldn’t start, starter motor was replaced due to thinking that could be the cause, he spoke to a mechanic explained the symptoms and what was going on and they said might be best to replace the key as it doesn’t sound like crank sensor, but he never got around to doing it so now I’m attempting to do it for him, once the car starts it doesn’t stop but when you turn it off most of the time you can’t get it started again
