G'day legends,
As the thread title says, I found a GPS tracker in my car. (I'd say from the previous owner)
I'm in the middle of removing it, but I want to check to see if anybody can tell me what it is that they have tapped into for a power source, and if it is safe for me to basically just dig in and remove it?

The car probably has something added to it, like driving light/horns/accessory power outlets. There's something non standard fitted (or was) fited to your car.

Thanks for all the replies. Just to clarify, on the end of the two fuses you can see in the picture (I wasn’t able to get the rest of the cable in the picture as it exceeds the maximum upload file size) is a connector that was connected to a black box that was very poorly mounted on the bracket above the battery.
I have removed the fuses, and bundled up the cabling that is spliced into the grey connector block that is in the original picture. Should I just leave it all alone now, or would it be better to remove what is left of the cabling?

As long as no live wires are exposed it will be fine.

So was it a GPS tracker or just the assumption that it was?

The cheaper gps trackers use 2G sim cards.
They don't function in Australia anymore because the 2G network is 99% shut down.
A previous owner realised it wasn't worth removing it.
If you want one that functions these days, you would opt for a 3G version (or 4G lite) and battery backup because if they only function when the car is ignition ON, you won't be able to track the car while it is being stripped down.

It was definitely a GPS tracker. I googled the company that was written on the OBD connector. I also pulled the main unit apart and found a nano sim card and a micro SD card slotted into the back of the main circuit board.
