Hey guys, could a dirty crappy fuel filter and crap in the fuel lines cause a car to randomly not start, and if it does to just cough and splutter then die?

Might be more, the fuel PUMP.
But yeah, like could be.

Does it Crank? but not fire? Could be fuel related, yeah.
If not, Ouch.

Do a error code check, replace the filter.
Also, if you don't hear any noises from the tank when you turn the key.. that's a good sign of a bad fuel pump, kick the tank and see if goes then.

I've thought it may be the pump as when you turn the key, there is no usual buzz sound of a fuel pump running. But it's been like that since I got the car. Usually it will start fine, but on the odd occasion it will just refuse to start all day. I've noticed it does it worse when I have filled the tank up to full? Wierd...

Also, bashing on the tank does nothing. And I did the paper clip scan test and just got code 12, 6 times. Unless I read the flashes wrong. Oh well, Lubemobile is going to be out on the nail, hopefully he can put his finger on the problem.

When you replace the fuel pump change all the breather line on top of the tank they get old and brittle and can break.
