How many grease nipples are on the VE (S2)? What can be greased?

Is it worth buying a grease gun and doing it myself? Or just take it to the local mechanic?

I have been under my VE numerous times, and have not seen one grease nipple.

Ouch. That's disappointing. Another way to empty my pockets on suspension parts

Honestly if the car isn't given a hard life the majority of bushes will outlive the car.

You are spot on,
I recon Most of the cars out on the road, probably still have the OEM bushes still in them.

True but that doesn't mean the bushes on many cars are not clapped out :p

I always likes the ability to grease drive line and suspension parts on older cars... but these days it's just component replacement when something is worn. That shouldn't be a bad thing in itself but sadly the components are getting bigger with quicker obsolescence of spare parts supply

Most cars have sealed units these days unless something been replaced with a nipple.

I have a replica FJ owners manual (somewhere amongst my collection of Holden trivia crap) and the greasing of nipples and oil changing required is incredible.
You would be required to spend as much time under the car in the dirt as you would driving it. If I can find it, I will post up a quick summary.

If anybody cares I’ve had lots of cars with grease nipples.
Several MGs real ones.
Several Austin Healey’s.
Triumph TR, Hillman Californian and sedan, Morris Series E.
Probably more. No big deal greasing a front end etc.

Yes, that’s almost certainly the case.

Oils and greases have progressed substantially, as has modern rubber compositions. I’d think today they’d be substantially better than way back in the days of the FJ which must impact service frequency.

Imagine if today’s manufacturers used modern rubber/polyurethane with bushes with grease nipples and modern grease, the service interval (as compared to FJ days) would be much much longer...

In fact GM has specific heavy duty sway bar links that are more substantial (and I believe also have grease nipples) than standard VF units. That supposedly resolves frequent failures of the standard stuff as seen by USA police forces while improving serviceability/longevity. Saw the part number for the HD GM sway bar on a post somewhere but haven’t been able to find it again.
